URLs: Go short or go long?
The battle rages on. With all the complex platforms and script logic, URLs just keep getting longer, and uglier! What's a webmaster to do? There are multiple ways to proceed in this arena: 1. Ignore it! Search bots are smart. The advantages of a "human-readable" URL are way way overrated. Just leave your site architecture alone and it will be MUCH faster, but suffer little when the bots come calling. 2. Just turn on SEF (search engine friendly) URLS in the script. Or add a plug-in that does it. Remember, when using SEF, you'll be stuck entering manual tags on EVERY article or post you make (horrible pain in the neck, in my view) 3. Think OFF SITE seo - not onsite. Offsite is rapidly becoming 3/4 or more of the total ranking battle anyway. You need EXTERNAL links from high authority and RELEVANT sites in order to get your own site seen. Concentrate on those. Edit/Delete Message |
