Timeless and Effective Traffic Generation Strategies
The following is a summary of traffic generation tactics that work today, worked yesterday, and will continue to work well into the future. If you become proficient in their execution, you will drive traffic to your web sites. Period! Article Marketing There aren't very many techniques for driving traffic that are more effective, longer-lasting, and contain the seeds of turning into a very long-term viral advertising asset than good old Article Marketing. If you do nothing else but become prolific at writing and submitting articles that are about your niche, well-written, and add value to the reader's experience, you will have succeeded in creating a stream of traffic. Blogging This tactic has been around for years, but only recently has gained almost a cult following among Internet Marketers, even to the point of widespread abuse of the tool. You can think of a blog as a simple-to-produce web site that gives almost anyone a soapbox from which to pontificate. About anything. If you build your blog's content in a tightly focused manner around your niche, you will have acquired a faithful ally in your effort to drive traffic to any site you own in that same niche. Well-developed blogs, tended with all the care of a Master gardener, build relationships with their readers, earn RSS feeds from advanced consumers, show up on distant web sites, and lead to some of the most productive and profitable joint ventures ever. Social Marketing There is nothing new about social marketing. It's been with us since ancient times. What is new about social marketing on the Internet is the level of tools and sophistication that has developed in support of personal, social, political, and business relationships. Beginning with early social marketing sites like slashdot and ryze, and continuing on with the development of mashable, facebook, myspace and twitter, social marketing sites are a worldwide phenomenon, and here to stay. They present the would-be relationship developer with such a gigantic Superstore of goodies to choose from, it can be confusing. Break off tiny chunks, one at a time, and put them to use. You won't be sorry. Forum Marketing Few traffic strategy tactics are easier than Forum marketing. The technique is straightforward. Find an account in your niche, or as closely related as possible. Join in the conversation, making helpful comments and getting to know people. Then, without overtly self-promoting, drop a link to your site in your signature, thus earning you backlinks and possible clickthroughs from the forum's visitors. Strike up a two-way conversation with forum members via Private Message when appropriate. Offer to help them further if you are able, outside the forum. This regularly leads to email exchanges, visiting each others sites or blogs, and even joining each others mailing lists. Forum marketing, when practiced on a consistent basis, is an extremely powerful method of driving traffic. Traffic Exchanges and Safelists These have earned a black eye with a lot of people over the years and are regularly overlooked when mounting a "serious" traffic campaign strategy. Ignoring them is a big mistake. Used properly, these sites have the ability to create a constant flow of traffic to your lead generation and opt-in squeeze page assets. Driving traffic to your web sites directly out of your double-opt-in mailing lists is what makes the major online marketers so much money every year. Traffic Exchanges and Safelists are one more piece of a bigger puzzle in putting those lists (and their resulting traffic) together. These are but of few of many dozens of traffic-building strategies in use today. However, they are highly effective, and fundamental, and will be around in one form or another for a long time to come. |
