The Rolleiflex T - One amazing camera
Originally engineered as a lower-cost Rolleiflex, The Rolleiflex T is more sophisticated than the Rolleicord, but a step below the 3.5F. Affectionately known as The “T”, it's name is derived from the Theodor Uhl’s name. Uhl, is the young engineer responsible for the development of the T. And was allegedly fired once Rollei’s management found out! The bad: The Rolleiflex-T doesn't have the smooth feel of the top line Rolleis. The 3.5F winds more smoothly. Although it's still vastly smoother winding that the Yashica-Mat. The T’s ability to adjust aperture and shutter speed takes some getting used to. A single lever operates the whole camera and sliding the lever to select shutter speed followed by adjusting the f-stop is a learned skill. Other Twin Lens Reflex cameras have these functions separated, making it more convenient to adjust both speed and aperture. The T works nicely with a wide range of Rolleiflex accessories: - Prism Viewfinder - Handgrip - Close-up lens - The Rolleikin - Interchangeable focusing screens The 3.5 Planar lens is superior but it costs a lot more. But for many years, the Tessar lens was considered to be as good a lens as any made in the world. It's a stunning wedding photographer's camera. Silent shutter. Easily enlargeable to the 16 x 20 formatted prints and larger. It's a wider angle camera thanks to the 75mm lens. |
