The Journey To Adsense Publishing Success Is Harder Than It Looks

Contrary to what some marketers hope you will believe, Adsense is harder than it looks. At times, it can be a jealous mistress. Many will try and fail to become successful Adsense publishers. They buy into every shady blackhat or grayhat scheme that comes their way. They jump all over the place, trying to maximize their ad revenue based on how expensive and profitable PPC keywords are without paying any attention to the bigger picture. And then they quit.

Because Adsense as a business model has a particularly low initial entry-point in terms of cost, it attracts the novice publisher. In fact, it often attracts the novice Internet entrepreneur. So many documents, e-books, courses and seminars sing the praises of becoming an Adsense publisher: how cheap it is to start, how easy it is to become profitable, how exciting it is to see those checks arriving from Google, for work you performed on your sites yesterday, or last month, or a YEAR ago. And, of course now that they're all done, you get to make money in your sleep!

As in life in general, it rarely works out that way. Adsense takes time. And practice. And a LOT more knowledge of how the Internet and Search Engine-based traffic functions. While many of the concepts inherent in Adsense publishing aren't rocket science...things like keyword research, keyword density, link relevancy, page rank, and deep linking....trying to put them all together into a coherent publishing enterprise isn't as easy as it looks.

You can always just ignore all that stuff and build quality, unique content sites that stay close to their core topic of interest, provide a meaningful service to the Internet community, and add value to all visitor's experience. But that would be too hard, right? And too slow. People want their huge Google check YESTERDAY (to pay off all those ghastly credit card bills). And so they cut corners. And get punished for it.

The dirty little secret about Adsense publishing is that it has to be one of THE most dynamic publishing venues in the history of advertising. NOTHING stays still for very long. So, the upstart publisher who's determined to set the Adsense world on fire is more likely to get their ankle twisted than anything else. Or broken. PPC can spell disaster for the greenhorn.

A mantra surrounding the Adsense publishing marketplace of late is one of caution. It's a sensible tactic. I, being the acronym fan that I am, call it MD for short...monetization diversification. Put simply, to use a cliche: Don't put all your web site monetization eggs in one basket. Look into Clickbank. Or Commission Junction. Join an affiliate program or two if your niche has spawned them. Consider CREATING YOUR VERY OWN PRODUCT! Wow, what a novel thought!

And dont forget the 3 Ts of the Adsense business: Track, Track and Track some more.
