The CPanel File Manager Upload Trick
Have you ever tried sending a few THOUSANDS files to your web site via FTP? Time consuming, isn't it? There is a far more efficient way to do it, and it's pretty easy, once you have done it a few times. Instead of forcing your poor FTP program to send the files one-by-one, sometimes requiring HOURS of slowly chugging away, try this method: 1. Zip up your files in one big zip file. Make sure you check the box to include subdirectories if you have them 2. Fire up Cpanel and go to your File Manager function 3. Navigate to the folder you wish the files to be deposited in. All subdirectory structures will descend from this folder, so make sure you have it right. 4. Hit the Upload button, browse to your newly-created zip file, and upload it. (note: if you've "tar'd" the file, you could be in trouble on step 5. Use zip) 5. Once the file is uploaded, select it and hit "Extract" This will unpack the archive, create the subdirectories inside the archive, and populate them with the files. 6. Delete the zip file. Done! The only remaining cleanup issue may be any file permissions that didn't survive the trip from the server you grabbed them off (unix-based) to the file system they landed on (your Windows XP box) and then back up to your web server (another unix system)...You'll have to sort that out yourself or use any utilities provided by the server software vendor. But this is the same regardless of the method you use to move the files on board. This method cuts drastically into the time required to move an entire site aboard your web server. Try it. You won't go back to the old way!
