Secure Your Dog Properly With Kennel Curb
It's a war! You versus your dogs. They want out. You want to keep them in. Simple enough. Right? Wrong! I'll show you how to secure your dog, once and for all. I use a little invention I came up with myself. It's called Kennel curb. There isn't much to it, really. It takes a bit of work, and a few bucks, but knowing your best bud is safe, and not out roaming the street is worth it. It all started when we used to hobby breed beagles and golden retrievers. The goldens would dig. The beagles would jump. Strange, but true. I once saw one of my show-quality lemon (that's tan and white) beagles go right over the top of a 6 foot fence. If I didn't know better, I would have sworn she was a cat! The goldens weren't any better. They loved to dig, and the beagles would exploit that, wriggling their way under and out, long before the hole was ever big enough for a golden retriever to fit through. I didn't trust myself to train both breeds to stop the behavior before one of them got hurt, so I took matters into my own hands. I bought a bunch of bags of Redicrete - that premixed concrete - and started a little digging of my own. I chopped about a 2" wide hole between 6 and 8" deep along the fence-line, all the way around the entire yard perimeter. I then took 10" long chunks of rebar and pounded little tent-stake-like pieces into the trench every 18" or so, leaving a few inches exposed to tie to the bottom of the fence. Then came the Redicrete. A bit of dirt over the top for show, and a twist into the fence at each juncture, and presto! A new Kennel Curb (tm) dog yard was born. I never had a dog dig out in 10 years, and there were a LOT of dogs in that yard over the years thanks to our dog rescue work. |
