Recipe Hunting Tricks

Ok, time to shake your diet up a bit. How?

Cook something different!

The easiest way to do that is to hunt down a new recipe. Trying something new adds spice (no pun intended) to your life. It expands your cooking skills. Gets you working with new ingredients you never knew of before.

If you're in a rut, it's time to put on your recipe-hunting cap and get out there.

First stop: the food web sites. There are insane amounts of recipes online today. Here's a tip. At your favorite search engine, don't just type "recipe" but qualify it with the type of cuisine you seek "mexican recipe" or "japanese cuisine" or "italian dishes" are great places to start. Also, if you are looking for healthy fare, add that to your search: "healthy mexican food"

If you are looking for quick, or easy, or both, add those search terms. If you want to cook a certain way (fried, bar-b-que, crock pot) add those as well.

Second stop: the library. Yes, even in a day and age of the whiz-bang digital marketplace, there is still rarely a substitute for a good ol cookbook. It's printed. You can stare at it while you cook (don't spill the eggs on it!). It has pictures of what the dish will (ok, should) look like. The recipes might be a bit older. But not necessarily. Food and ways to prepare it are timeless.

Third stop: Mom's house (or email box) - go back to the source. It's your greatest comfort zone. Food that reminds you of growing up!
