Multiply Your Streams Of Income With Affiliate Programs
You've arrived. Your site is raking in the traffic. It's converting nicely. But what to do to expand your income? All your options are either labor-intensive, or cost extra money to produce. Right? Nope. There is one extremely powerful Internet Marketing mechanism that allows you to increase your revenue, expand the number of revenue streams you have working for you, and build your list - all without doing much additional work or spending significantly more money. That mechanism is affiliate programs. First, you need to look at your niche. What is your target customer? You can't join an affiliate program until you know which matches your market (and existing customers/visitors) You're going to be advertising other people's products on your site, so the companies you are promoting must be very carefully chosen to complement your existing products and services. You don't want them to compete against your own products, but enhance and support your offerings. If you site visitors are looking at ads for products that are totally unrelated to the content of the site, or what they came for in the first place, they won't click the affiliate ads. Or worse, they'll bail on your site completely. So be diligent in your affiliate product search. Affiliate products aren't any different than any other product. The more carefully targeted the customer viewing the ads is, the more likely you will see traffic to those affiliate pages, and also the more likely that traffic is to buy something. You must pay attention to the layout of your web site in order to maximize the use of affiliate ads. The size, location, type of ad (graphics, colors, animation, etc) must blend in with your site's style and "culture" or they won't be as effective. Place them in the proper place, and they'll produce. Get this wrong, and you are just wasting valuable screen real estate. You probably want to avoid a lot of the more distracting advertising methods, such as animated images and pop-up ads. These are just annoying, and may chase away your visitors. Also, don't overshadow your own highly-coverting ads with affiliate ads that don't pay as well. Don't forget that converting a visitor to your OWN customer is more desirable (thanks to the list relationship) than sending them off to some other merchant's list, even if the affiliate commission is a hefty one. Make sure your site is in compliance with the affiliate merchant's Terms Of Service. There's nothing worse than going to collect an affiliate commission, and finding out you earned the money "illegally" as a result of violating their advertising TOS. Some other things to consider about affiliate programs: 1. Check their reputation on the net. This is an irrelevant step if you are talking about Amazon or Google, or Ebay, but comes into play with smaller vendors. Are they solvent? Do they pay on time? 2. Check their payment schedule. How often do they pay? 3. Check their minimums. Is it going to take $100 or more in commissions before you see a check? 4. How do they pay? Are you stuck taking payment in some obscure e-currency that is going to require a bunch of fees and pain and suffering to extricate to your bank account? How hard is it to spend the money you've earned? Becoming a promoter of affiliate programs can be a rewarding and revenue-enhancing experience for you as a successful site operator. Make sure you are creating a content-rich environment that is enhancing your visitor's Internet experience, and get the targeting right, and you will have a successful add-on strategy in affiliate marketing for years to come.
