Hurricane Entertainment Ideas
The storm has subsided. The power is out. You have no television. No Internet. No lights at night. Now what? If you plan ahead, you can reduce or eliminate a whole bunch of stress by filling your time creatively. Everyone is different, but here are some thoughts on what you might prepare for to lessen the sheer boredom of the after-effects of a hurricane:
* Cards (think plastic-coated?) and poker chips * Simple games - A Cribbage board * Musical Instruments * A Dry-erase board and some pens * A Boom Box or other CD Player with FM Radio * If you have a generator and can recharge the batteries on your notebook, get an air card (mobile Internet access) * Books (keep in plastic bags during the storm) and MP3 music and educational/inspiration material for iPod or other MP3 players * Make sure you have sufficient lighting - oil lamps and lanterns are great. Pretend you are camping. * Jigsaw puzzles or board games. A book of Word puzzles * Crafts and other projects * Get creative - what you you REALLY LIKE TO DO with an extra week of free time? * Don't overlook the little ones! Securing their favorite toys and making them available will reduce a TON of stress.
