Google: The Ultimate Dictionary So, you're cruising along, writing away, and you arrive at a word you don't know how to spell. You try one combination of letters...ewww! Ugly. Then another. You're away from your trusty spellchecker in MS Word or Office. You would rather not bother hunting down a online checker - you don't trust them anyway. What's the answer? Google! Just type the totally ganked-up word in a google search box and see what happens. A few possible results: 1. Your word is properly spelled. If you see 28 million pages pop up, you're probably done. 2. A way way smaller number of pages appears, often in conjuction with the infamous "Did you mean..." hot link Go ahead. Try the alternate Google provides, making a mental note of the number of pages for your first try. If you the alternate has, oh, say 70 times as many pages as the first try, you're probably done. 3. Check wikipedia.org or wiktionary.org to be sure your meaning is correct. A great little vehicle for settling disputes...especially if the word is too obscure to be found in most online or software-based dictionaries.
