Candles can be allergic
Candles are great. The look. The warmth. The aromas. They set a mood that is difficult to achieve without them. They soothe tattered nerves. They calm people down after a hectic day. The spur romantic thoughts. But candles burn. They put off smoke. When the wax melts, it produces a gas, scented or not, that has an impact on the room's occupants. This can have a dramatic effect on someone who's allergic to the smoke or fragrance. The changes in the environment and breathing atmosphere can trigger an allergic reaction. It can be as mild as annoying eye irritation or as serious as an asthma attack. If someone is experiencing symptoms of distress, remove them from the room, and keep an eye on them. If the problem persists, seek medical help. Different types of candles can have a dramatically different impact on someone. With a bit of experimentation, even a person allergic to candles can find a combination that works for them. |

You should be aware that there are wickless candles, specifically the Scentsy brand, that do not have a flame, no wick, no soot, no lead, no sulphur. The wax does not evaporate, only the scent is released safely using a low watt light bulb. I have found many allergy customers and customers with asthma are able to use Scentsy candles without any problems.
