Ok, what the heck is an aggregator and why should I care? From the 15th century English term "aggregate", Miriam Webster defines it as "formed by the collection of units or particles into a body, mass, or amount" If you punch the term into a search engine, you'll find the results discussing primarily news aggregators. I define the concept in a larger sense: Collections Of digital assets
Of talent
Of potential joint venture partners and affiliates
Of knowledge A web site containing a diverse array of information is, itself, an aggregator A teaching and mentoring community aggregates knowledge, tactics and strategy A membership web site that contains a large repository of books, tutorials, and multimedia assets is an aggregator. The Internet itself is the greatest aggregator of information ever devised. Think of aggregator resources as a huge volume discount. Instead of buying just one book, or video, or access to a single article or report, you are granted access to hundreds or even thousands of such assets. Good aggregators employ elaborate filtering and search mechanisms to help you sort through all the offerings allowing you to focus on precisely the ones that will do you the most good at that particular moment. So, next time you are looking for that elusive bit of information, don't overlook the aggregators. |
