All the dirt on Twitter

As social marketing sites go, Twitter stands alone.

It is NOT your run-of-the-mill Social Networking site. To sum it all up, it's a crazy combination of Web20 meets Wikipedia and throws in a liberal dose of creativtiy. Then makes it INSTANTLY update everyone plugged in.

It must be one of the single, most powerful networking sites on the net at moving breaking news and information among large numbers of people.

Partly due to the fact that people are "logged in" (not really), and largely because they are regularly paying attention, the site participants have the opportunity, at any minute of any hour of the day, to type in what they are doing in a dialog box.

A "follower" of their movements, upon seeing that posting, can direct message them, or visit a link that they show, or Stumble or Digg the site they discuss. Or create their own post, parroting the URL if they like, thus turning the discussion into a Viral beast. All in real time. It's a furious pace. And it's totally addicting.

News travels almost at the speed of light on Twitter. There are followers (those interested in what YOU are doing) and followed (those YOU are following). It's an very different and unique way to get to know people, and find out what they are involved in.

One of the most exciting things about Twitter is when a major personality or player in your industry chooses to follow YOU! That's a light bulb moment, if I ever heard of one.

As the old Genesis song goes (is this going to be Twitter's theme song?) Follow me and I'll follow you...
