7 Major Factors Effecting Your F.I.C.O. Score Here are a few of the factors affecting your FICO scores: 1. Account Delinquencies. These are your past-due balances on any loans you have outstanding. 2. Too many accounts If you have opened or maintained way too many accounts during the past year, this will negatively effect your score, regardless of the health or balance of them 3. Credit history Too Short If you have no recent credit card debt or payment history, this is a problem. Lenders want to see patterns. No history means no pattern for them to follow. 4. Balances are at Max If your credit card debt is maxed out or too many cards are close to your limits, this sends up a red flag, and costs you points 5. Tax liens and Judgments Any public disclosure of liens, judgements, or bankruptcies will cost you points. 6. Excessive Credit Inquiries If you apply for credit all the time, this will count against you. Keep your credit card and other types of loan apps to a minimum. 7. Not enough accounts. If you have just one card (and it's a dept store account), you are going to lose points.
